Stallone to star in TV version of Mario Puzo's OMERTA

Decades after he was strongly considering Godfather III, it looks like Sylvester Stallone is finally joining the Mafia in a proposed TV series based on Mario Puzo's last novel, Omerta. Added into the mix is the fact that Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Magnificent Seven) is directing the first episode from a script by Justin Herber and Adam Hoff. Stallone will be portraying Raymonde Aprile, considered to be the last great American don. Produced by The Weinstein Compoany, the intent is to get a network to come on board for a full series commitment.

This is a big turn for Stallone, an Academy Award nominee for his portrayal of Rocky Balboa in Ryan Cogler's Creed.

Omerta was published in 2000, about a year after Puzo's death.
