WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: The Jungle Book Swings To Number One With a Wild $103.6 Million
Walt Disney's The Jungle Book is the king of ticket sales,
taking in a beastly $103.6 million in its opening weekend,
according to studio estimates.
The weekend result surpassed all expectations and stands
as the second-highest April opening ever, behind
2015's Furious 7 ($147.2 million).
"This is a flat-out stunner. No one expected that The Jungle
Book would make this much — the projections just continued
to build throughout the weekend," says Paul Dergarabedian,
senior media analyst for comScore. "And this wasn't just
playing for kids and families. It played to
audiences across the board like an action adventure."
1. The Jungle Book. $103.6 million
2. Barbershop: The Next Cut. $20 million
3. The Boss. $10.2 million
4. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. $9 million
