WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: ' The Purge : Election Year ' Excels As Spielberg's The BFG Stumbles


Pixar's held strong in first place for
yet another week, earning $41.9 million. Just behind in second place was The Legend of Tarzan, which debuted to $38.1
million.The Purge Election Year also had a successful opening for Universal, making $30.9 million off its modest $10 million budget.
Director Steven Spielberg's new Disney
film The BFG had an underwhelming debut this weekend, placing fourth at the box office with $19.6 million.
