RUMOURED PLAYSTATION 4.5 CODENAMED 'NEO', SPECS REVEALED


A new report has revealed the apparent specs for the
PlayStation 4.5, aka PS4K, aka the PlayStation 'NEO'.
According to , the
- rumored since March - is referenced internally
as NEO, and will contain a a higher clock speed, improved GPU,
and higher memory bandwidth. The console will also support 4K
image output.
The publication reports that from October, games released for
the PlayStation 4 must ship with a 'Base Mode' for the current
model and a 'NEO Mode' for the upgraded model, while games
released previous to October can opt to take advantage of the
new hardware with a patch. In a nutshell, games running in NEO
mode will offer higher visual fidelity and a more stable frame
rate - the exact specs provided to GiantBomb are below:
Original PS4 CPU - 8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6 GHz
NEO CPU - 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz
Original PS4 GPU - AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800 MHz
NEO GPU - Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911 MHz
Original PS4 Memory - 8 GB GDDR5, 176 GB/s
NEO Memory - 8 GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s

“Starting in October, every PS4 game is
required to ship with both a “Base Mode”
which will run on the currently available PS4
and a “NEO Mode” for use on the new
console. Games running in NEO mode will be
able to use the hardware upgrades (and an
additional 512 MiB in the memory budget) to
offer increased and more stable frame rate
and higher visual fidelity, at least when those
games run at 1080p on HDTVs.”
