Before the iPhone, we had the Motorola Razr.
Released in 2004 , the skinny flip phone was a
fashion icon, a revolutionary design
compared to the stubby Nokias that ruled the
world.
Promoted by the likes of David Beckham, the Razr
became the world’s bestselling flip phone and
one of the 10 most popular of all time. And
despite being woefully underpowered compared
to today’s mobiles, with a 2.2-inch screen and 0.3
megapixel camera, it still evokes fond memories
in a world of nagging smartphones with
shrinking battery lives.
But if you pine for the simpler times of flip
phones, text messages and WAP, your prayers
may about to be answered. Motorola has hinted
that the Razr could make a return.
New Motorola owner Lenovo promises a new
RAZR handset next month, which will ‘flip back
to the Razr days of yesteryear and get ready for
the future.’
The new phone will run Android – and join’s
new fliphone handsets by Samsung and other
companies, as analysts predict a rebirth of the
flip phone trend.
