DC Movie Update Arrives from ‘Batman v Superman’ Producer

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is shaping up to be one of the biggest movies this year. But, in reality, it's just the beginning for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Later in 2016, we'll be introduced to the Suicide Squad, with Wonder Woman (June 23, 2017), Justice League Part 1 (November 17, 2017), The Flash (March 23, 2018) and Aquaman (July 27, 2018) coming over the last half of this decade. While promoting Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, producer Deborah Snyder laid out the production schedule for the DCEU as it currently stands, in an interview with Collider. Here's what she had to say below, where she confirmed one interesting detail about Wonder Woman.

"So Suicide Squad is in post and that comes out later this summer, and Wonder Woman we just finished most of the bulk of principal photography in London. They're taking a two-week hiatus so Gal [Gadot] can come and do press, and then we go back and shoot the Themiscyra sections in Italy, and then come back for some pickups in London, just some green screen and some tank work, and things like that. We start Justice League April 11th and that is at Leavesden, mostly on stage and some locations around there as well as Iceland and I think a beat in Scotland at the end of the schedule. And we are working with James Wan on the development of the Aquaman script right now, and I'm hoping that sometime first quarter of next year we'll be in production on that movie as well as working on the script for The Flash. So it's a little busy. It's amazing to be able to get the opportunity to bring these great characters to life. It's like a dream come true. It's crazy. It's busy but we love doing what we do."
The producer's comments essentially confirm a rumor from several months ago, that part of Wonder Woman will be set on the title character's home island of Themyscira. There was a rumor that the movie would take place during World War I, which has been confirmed, along with present day, which will tie in to the upcoming Justice League Part 1. We reported in September that the movie would be partially shot in Basilicata, Italy, with many speculating that they would be scenes set in Themyscira. When asked about the diverse nature of the DCEU, Deborah Snyder spoke about how different these movies are from one another.

"They're so different from each other. (Suicide Squad director) David (Ayer) has created this really fun movie about bad guys trying to do good, and it's brazen, and it has just a really great tone to it, so it's really fun. And it's so different from BvS and it's completely different from what Patty Jenkins is doing with Wonder Woman. With Wonder Woman , it's an origin story, it takes place also in World War I, so as you can imagine you're kind of in a completely different world. And even just the color palette and everything of the films are so different from one another. And I think that's what's so great about having these directors come on board who have a very strong vision and point of view for these characters and these amazing stories and they can really make it their own, so that's pretty cool."
After The Flash and Aquaman debut in 2018, Shazam! will arrive on April 5, 2019, followed by Justice League Part 2 (June 14, 2019), Cyborg (April 3, 2020) and Green Lantern Corps. (June 19, 2020). We'll be sure to keep you posted as soon as more announcements are made.
