WEEKEND BOX OFFICE : Star Wars: Force Awakens Crosses $1 Billion Mark Worldwide In Its 2nd week


This December has been a very busy month for Starwars: Force Awakens as it continues to rack up more cash as movie goers continue to flood cinemas this holiday season and it looks like it's not stopping anytime soon, so you can expect to see the movie rack up more cash as we head into the New year.

In terms of worldwide box office, it crossed
the $1 billion mark in record time this
weekend, with a 12-day total of $1.09 billion
( Jurassic World needed 13 days to top $1
billion). The film now ranks 15th all-time
Worldwide But there was more to see at theaters over the holiday,the new Mark Wahlberg /Will Ferrell comedy
DADDY'S HOME drew the largest non-STAR WARS crowd
for a second place debut with $38.8 million (the movie
cost a reported $50 million).

Opening in third place was the PG-13 comedy JOY with
$17.5 million . Filmmaker David O. Russell 's latest
collaboration with Jennifer Lawrence (along with Bradley
Cooper and Robert De Niro ) wasn't far behind the $19.1
million of AMERICAN HUSTLE's first wide weekend in
2013, although a reported $60 million budget makes JOY
the director's most expensive effort since THREE KINGS in
1999.
JOY had the best opening for star Jennifer Lawrence in a
leading role outside of THE HUNGER GAMES series
